Currently enrolling: a clinical trial of citrulline in women with preeclampsia

Nantes University Hospital (France) is currently enrolling pregnant women with preeclampsia in a phase 2/3 (safety and efficacy) clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of citrulline in prolonging pregnancy. Citrulline is a natural amino acid in the body and provides a source of nitric oxide to the body. Nitric oxide dilates blood vessels including blood vessels of the placenta, and therefore may help in preeclampsia and IUGR.
