The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston along with the University of Pittsburgh and Northwestern University are currently enrolling pregnant women at high-risk for preeclampsia in a phase I (safety) clinical trial. An underlying common process in preeclampsia and cardiovascular disease is inflammation and endothelial dysfunction, which means that the inner lining of the blood vessels does not work as well as it should. Pravastatin, a member of the family of drugs called "statins," is commonly used to treat inflammation and endothelial dysfunction in cardiovascular disease. Results of studies in animals suggest that pravastatin may also help in preeclampsia. For more information, see: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01717586?recrs=a&cond=Preeclampsia&rank=18
